30 Hour Famine
The 30 Hour Famine is sponsored by World Vision. The idea is simple. The students who choose to participate get donors to sponsor their fasting for 30 hours. The donations received are then given directly to World Vision, an charity organization, which then uses the majority of the funds to stamp out world hunger by providing food to those who need it.
While fasting, the students are kept busy worshiping and performing community service events. The students assist members and businesses in the community with things like house painting, yard work, canned food drives and much more.

Another ministry opportunity available to us through World Vision is child and/or family sponsorship. As a child sponsor, you are connected with a child who will write to you, know
your name, and feel your tender love and prayers.
Your pledge of $30 a month will provide clean water, nutritious food, health care, education opportunities and spiritual nurture for the child. You may also choose to sponsor a Hope Child for $35 per month which adds AIDS prevention and or counseling and treatment to the list of provided necessities. The last option available is family sponsorship. If you elect to sponsor a family, you will provide all of the previous necessities to the family as well as small business loan opportunity and higher eduction opportunity. The rate for family sponsorship is $40 per month.
All in all, $30 per month is not something that you will miss. Just think about it this way… You end up spending over $40 in one night if you take someone to dinner and a movie. Is it such a large task to ask that we give up something one time a month so that these children and their families can have clean water, food, and health care? If that is not incentive enough for you, the $360 – $480 you will spend a year on this child or family is completely tax deductable.
Please consider taking the step towards child sponsorship. This is a great ministry to be involved in. However, we don’t want you to undertake the task of sponsoring a child for a year and cave in after a few short months. We encourage everyone who is interested to talk first with Ricky Wheat. He sponsors a child, and has been for some years now. He will be able to tell you what all is “up” with child sponsorship and offer some additional incite on the subject.
If you are ready to take the step now, we encourage you to point your web browser to worldvision.org and get started.
